Dave Ryan is the founder and sole Director of Ryan & Co Solicitors and has over 35 years' worth of experience in dealing with all aspects of criminal matters from interviews at the Police station through to representation at the Magistrates’ Court, Crown Court and even the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division). 

He qualified as a Solicitor in 2006 and as a Duty Solicitor and Higher Court-Advocate (Criminal) 3 years later. He has also been an Accredited Police station representative since 1995.

Most recently, he successfully defended a young man charged with murder alongside a number of other Co-Defendants. The case involved complex legal issues regarding the law on joint enterprise and extensive analysis of hours’ worth of CCTV footage. His client was the only Defendant to be acquitted.

In another recent case, Dave represented the only Defendant to be acquitted in a large-scale conspiracy to supply drugs. That matter involved detailed consideration of hundreds of thousands of pages of prosecution material, as well as complex legal issues.

Notable Cases

R v A – Conspiracy to Supply Class A Drugs

• Represented a Defendant involved in large-scale drugs conspiracy involving a number of other Defendants, which involved detailed consideration of mobile phone evidence and Police surveillance evidence. The only Defendant, out of 33, to be acquitted.

R v S – Fraud

• Represented the main Defendant in a trial lasting 6 months, involving a multimillion pound mortgage and VAT fraud and money laundering.

R v W – Conspiracy to Supply Class A Drugs

• Represented a very young Defendant in a large-scale drug conspiracy involving multiple Co-Defendants, with the case requiring detailed analysis of mobile phone data.

R v B – Joint Enterprise Murder

• Represented a Defendant charged, along with others, with murder following a brawl in the city centre. Complex issues surrounding joint enterprise. The only Defendant to be acquitted by the jury.

R v H – Conspiracy to Produce Drugs (Modern Slavery)

• Represented a Vietnamese national charged with conspiracy to produce cannabis. Acquitted by a jury after the statutory defence under the Modern Slavery Act was raised.

R v B – Historic Sexual Offences

• Represented a Defendant charged with a wide range of serious sexual offences against a number of his family members. Acquitted by the jury of all counts.

R v Mc – Money Laundering

• Represented a Defendant charged with money laundering with significant amounts of money passing through her accounts. On the day of the trial the prosecution offered no evidence following the service of an Expert’s report, prepared following extensive consideration of thousands of pages of bank statements.

R v W – Conspiracy to Supply Class A Drugs (Encrochat phones)

• Represented a Defendant involved in large scale drugs conspiracy involving a number of other Defendants, which involved detailed consideration of mobile phone evidence and Police surveillance evidence.

R v O – Historic Sexual Offences (Multiple Complainants)

• Represented a Defendant charged with historic sexual assaults and rapes supported by multiple family members. 

R v A – Rape

• Represented a young Defendant charged with several rapes upon the same complainant. Acquitted after a trial lasting several days.
